Hey kids out there. What’s is up.

Hey morning and welcome back ya’ll.  it is good to be back to blogging and my pathetic life, which I am sure you’ll all agree is not worth writing about. But none the less here I go with it.

I filled in for Mike B’s show Body Rock on WMNF.  It comes on Thursday morning midnight to 3am.  I was really honored that he asked me to fill in. I personally think his show is one of the best shows on MNF.  So I had one day to prep, the day of.  So the first hours was a total train wreck in my opinion. I sounded like an idiot, even more so than normal, It had been 6 months since I last  did a show, and right off the bat, like first song, it crashed.  I had the song in cue which when you play it only goes to the headphones and not out broadcasting.  Then I had 5 different cd’s start to skip. Anyways, by the second hour and third hour was much better, and I think I kept true to the format of the show; which I felt important do.

In other news, I have a ton of work to do. I have to finish revising the bylaws to revise for the Tampa Veteran Mental Health Advocacy Council. I have to build the VMHAC membership. I got so many books to read. Research for the film,  it is a film about sex trafficking and combat veterans issues, then write it. Then comes raising the capital to shoot and market it.  Write a business plan for the production company, then raise capital to start that.

I have fallen behind to say the least. And for those know me know I have to soon clear my name publicly. So that should be fun.  I also am looking into becoming a veterans mentor for veterans court. I’ll get into that later when I know more, but you get the idea. A veteran commits a crime and the court sets up a program that the vet has to do. Once he or she completes the program his record becomes clean. Mentors help the veteran through the process and guilds him or her. I want to be a mentor. I think I would be of use in that role.

Oh and finally, I have to start painting. I have 38 canvases that need to be painted.

So I am sitting here in front of you. 28 Sept 2015

So I need to start writing. Why? Because at my core I am a writer. I know I do not put any effort into it, but none the less, I am a writer. Then after that follows being a filmmaker, painter, all around artist.  I look inside mind and there are so many things to write about. That is why I have 3 blogs. So I am making the commitment to write and to write a lot, as well as read a lot. We should all be avid readers. Don’t you agree.

So what here is what is up with me. I am doing research for my film on sex trafficking and combat veteran issues.  Why so much research? Because, I want to be an expert on these subjects so that I may speak with authority.  I also want to start advocating on these 2 subjects.  I am going to be contacting Tampa Police Department to see what they are doing in regards of fighting sex trafficking in Tampa. Which by the way, is a major hub for child sex trafficking. I am just finishing up Holly Austin Smith’s book Walking Prey. I strongly recommend you read it. Especially if you deal with children.

And now something funny from the Boondocks.

My other blogs

Hey in case you didn’t know I have two other blogs: the first is My Journey into Film,   which is a my film and art blog  and then  Notes from Outpost 187 which is a social and political blog.  I hope you will enjoy them both.

So here in the Tampa Bay area we have the Dali museum in St Petersburg, and right now they are having an exhibition of Pablo Picasso works. It is really good, however I wish they had more of Picasso’s, but none the less it was good. Picasso and Dali were great friends who competed with each other over the course of their careers, so it is really nice to see the progression in each others work. If you are in the bay area or want to take a get away here I strongly suggest you go and check it out.

Being the best.

So it occurred to me today that I have taken a very, just let it happen, zen approach to everything.  And surprise surprise it really hasn’t worked. I seem to be spinning my wheels and getting no where. So I came to the conclusion that if I want to succeed I need to have the goal of being the best. The best filmmaker, artist, community leader and person that I possibly and be. Starting here in Tampa; I am going to first concur the bay area.  I also have been letting life passing me by for various reasons which I will share latter. I want a full and rich life. That is going to require a lot of changing on my part.

I know what is required to succeed. I think most people know. But it is always a matter of doing it. Most people, I think the lack action and work required to be successful, or at least for me it has been. And I can’t do that anymore. I have to many great opportunities in front of me, and I have the talent, intellect and creativity to succeed and become the person I want to be. It is only a matter of how much work am I willing to put into it.

What makes our military different.

I was chatting on Facebook today with a friend of mine who is a 1st Sergent in an Infantry company in the Army.  I know him because he was one of the Team Leaders in my squad when I did a tour in Honduras.  We chatted about about a wide range of issues, and one of the issues I think is worth noting;  what makes our military different from others?  A few thing: first NCO’s, Non Commissioned Officers,  make the military run. Without them, our military would fold like a lawn chair. They train and lead our military.  If you look at say Afghanistan they have no NCO’s what so ever; which is one of the big, on top of many,  reasons the Afghan Army will fail.  Another thing is, soldiers get paid. Leaders do not keep the pay of their men.  We see this in Iraq where the Officers are keeping their soldiers pay for themselves. This also happens in Afghanistan.  Morale goes to shit when you don’t pay your people.  Here is another, and big, example of what is the difference between our military and others, leaders put their men ahead of themselves, or at least they should.  An example is  when it is time for chow, especially when you are in the field training, the enlisted guys eat first then the NCO’s and Officers. You take care of your men before you take care of yourself.  Believe it or not that goes a long way for keeping good morale.  To this day, when I make food for people, I eat last and I will wait for as long as it takes no matter how hunger I am.

What can you learn this? Big leadership lessons is what we get  If you take care of your people,  put your people ahead of yourself, they will follow you to hell and back.  Also, pay your people well. It shows them you value their work and effort, and they’ll work harder for you. Believe it not.  Hire managers that not only have this philosophy but are competent at what they do. There is nothing worse than an incompetent leader, and it will kill morale quicker than anything.  And one last thing, make your people feel like they are apart of something bigger. If your people have a cause to work for, they will for that cause.
